Henkel’s West Hazleton Facility Celebrates 2 Million Hours Without a Lost-Time Accident

On December 1, the Henkel manufacturing plant in West Hazleton, Pa. completed 2 million hours worked without a lost-time accident. The plant has 200 employees and produces Dial® soaps and body washes and Purex® laundry detergents and fabric softeners.  The plant’s last lost-time accident occurred nearly five years ago in February 2005.

"This milestone is the result of every employee ensuring not only his or her own safety, but the safety of their team members and anyone else who comes to our plant.  Safety is a part of everything we do,” said Plant Manager Terry Hartlage.  “We have systems in place to ensure we maintain high standards and safe behavior, but it is the dedication of our employees to work safe each day that is the driving force behind our outstanding results in this area.”

In addition to the 2 million hour milestone, the West Hazleton plant is on track to have zero OSHA recordable injuries for calendar year 2009.  Since January 2007, the plant has had only 2 recordable injuries.

Doug Fraser, Vice President of Operations for Henkel, said, “We congratulate the West Hazleton plant on achieving the significant milestone of 2 million safe hours. This achievement, coupled with the plant's incident rate performance these past three years, clearly places West Hazleton as one of the safest manufacturing operations in the world. These types of results are only possible when each employee takes responsibility for their personal safety and for the safety of the people they work with. We thank the employees for their commitment and hard work in living the statement, ‘Nothing we do is worth getting hurt.’"
