Henkel Unveils Advanced Adhesives for Drug Delivery at 2008 AAPS Exposition
Featured at AAPS Exposition Booth Number 1242:
• DURO-TAK® pressure sensitive adhesives for transdermal drug delivery: Used in over 40 unique patches approved by regulatory agencies around the world, these adhesives have a long history of use on skin and desirable solubility characteristics for a wide range of drugs. Formulators can select from over 25 acrylic copolymers offering a variety of chemical compositions and performance properties. On the other end of the solubility spectrum, Henkel’s DURO-TAK polyisobutylene and styrenic rubber adhesives give even more options. In addition, Henkel will explore customized adhesive compositions. Henkel experts are uniquely able to provide guidance to achieve the desired efficacy for a patch, taking into account drug flux, adhesive loading capacity, adhesive enhancer tolerance, system stability, skin compatibility, length of adhesive wear, and appearance. With more than 35 years experience in acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives, expert technical service, complete regulatory support for filings, manufacturing capability in both North America and Europe, Henkel has the experience, resources and expertise to make transdermal projects a success.
• PROLOC™ Bioadhesive Drug Delivery System: PROLOC meets the needs of drug formulators for a USP Grade bioadhesive that enables superior adhesion, complete erosion and higher drug loading capacity. PROLOC provides the means to deliver therapeutic agents via buccal, nasal, vaginal, rectal and ocular mucosa. Clinical trials have been conducted using buccal tablets, vaginal tablets and intranasal powders with very promising results. Using this advanced delivery system, formulators can expand their current drug franchise or open new possibilities for drug molecules and uniquely delivered therapies.
In addition, AAPS visitors are welcome to learn about Henkel’s new VELOX MCS Microcrystalline starch excipient, which enables rapid and complete release of poorly soluble drugs in capsules and tablets.
