Prom Fashion Becomes Public's Pick in this Sticky Contest - Duck® brand duct tape Stuck at Prom® Scholarship Contest challenges students to be creative to score scholarship prizes - with the help of online voters
Limo? Check. Corsage and boutonnière? Check. Dinner reservations? Check. Duct tape? Come again? Yes, once again Duck® brand duct tape is adding the sticky stuff to the list of prom essentials. Innovation, creativity, and yes, duct tape, are all students need to cash in.
The 2007 Duck® brand duct tape Stuck at Prom® Scholarship Contest challenges high school students to create and accessorize their prom formalwear with America's favorite fix-all - duct tape. And, for the first time, this year it's the public's choice as to who's got the hottest fashions! Online public voting will decide the winning couple from the top 10 finalists.
Rather than blending in with the rest of the predictable, off-the-rack ensembles, students can invest a few bucks into some rolls of duct tape to create unique, fashion-forward outfits that are sure to steal the spotlight. Not only can students get creative with their promwear, but they will also have the opportunity to make college a little more affordable. The couple receiving the first place title will receive a $6,000 cash scholarship for college.
Duck® brand duct tape is available in 20 colors and patterns, so students can pick their favorite color combinations, get creative with their accessories and set the newest fashion trends. Sponsored by Henkel Corporation, the Duck® brand duct tape Stuck at Prom® Scholarship Contest will reward students for their creativity and originality in creating or accessorizing prom formalwear with duct tape. First place winners will receive a $3,000 college scholarship each - a total of $6,000 for the couple - and $3,000 for the high school hosting the winning couple's prom. The second place winners will each receive a $2,000 college scholarship, with the high school receiving $2,000. The third place couple will each win a $1,000 college scholarship, and the high school will receive $1,000.
HOW TO ENTER
Interested students can go to www.stuckatprom.com for official contest rules and a registration form. The contest starts on March 5, 2007. Participants are required to submit a completed entry form and a photo of themselves wearing their duct tape prom formalwear and other documents required by the contest rules. All must be received by June 8, 2007.

During the contest period, all entries, including those from previous years, can be viewed at www.stuckatprom.com. Entries are posted in the order they are received.
This year, 10 top couples will be chosen as finalists by a panel of judges, including Jim & Tim, the famed Duct Tape Guys, and Todd Scott, duct tape guru and sculptor. Entries will be judged on a number of criteria, including workmanship, originality, use of colors, accessories and quantity of duct tape used.
Then, it's up to the public's vote. The top 10 finalists will be narrowed down to first, second and third place winners during a period of online voting. Voting will open on June 15, 2007 and end on June 24, 2007.
Winners will be announced on or around July 11, 2007.
In 2006, high school students Holly Nelson and Bing Xu, of Willington, Conn., outdid 232 couples from 48 states and three Canadian provinces to be named the 2006 Duck® brand duct tape Stuck at Prom® Contest winners.
The duo attended the Edwin O. Smith High School prom in formalwear that took them five months of hard work, including 230 individual designs and more than 25 rolls of duct tape to create. Having followed the contest for five years, Nelson was inspired by a fascination with traditional Cambodian court dance attire. Her dress combined color and texture, and was highlighted by a unique embroidery pattern at the base of the bodice, which was created from a colorful combination of rolled "threads" of duct tape.
Not to be out-done, Xu matched his date's creativity with a sleek black suit that included a textured cross-over jacket with a broad shoulder design and traditional black pants - both decorated with a unique embroidery pattern complementing his date's dress.
The couple said the outfits were extremely hot and heavy, and given time to reflect, they would have added ventilation holes to Xu's suit. But, the attention received at the dance and the time they spent together made it all worthwhile.
"We had a blast at prom, and the feeling afterwards was exhilarating," said Xu.
Beyond being a focal point at prom, Nelson was also crowned prom queen. This is the first Stuck at Prom® Contest winner to also capture this title at prom.
"I couldn't believe the attention we got, and I was so excited when they called my name for prom queen," said Nelson.
