Henkel is Premium Sponsor of Handball World Championship
Düsseldorf, Germany/Gulph Mills, Penn., January 18, 2007 - After last year's soccer World Cup, Germany is hosting another international sports event. The 2007 World Handball Championship starts on January 19, and Henkel is supporting it as a premium sponsor. The opening game will be held in Berlin on January 19, and the final will be staged in Cologne on February 4. Having participated in the 2005 World Championship in Tunis and the 2006 European Championship in Switzerland, this is the third time that Henkel will sponsor an international handball event.
The referees at the Handball World Championship will wear shirts carrying the Henkel slogan "A brand like a friend" and the Henkel logo will appear on advertising panels. Handball is one of the world's most popular ball sports, with a wide following in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, which are important markets for Henkel. In Germany, national coach and handball legend Heiner Brand helps to ensure that the sport attracts plenty of attention.
Henkel has sponsored national and international sports events for many years. The manufacturer of popular U.S. brands like Dial®, Loctite® and Right Guard® is a premium sponsor of the DEG Metro Stars in the German Ice Hockey League. In its home city of Düsseldorf, it sponsors the "Henkel-Renntag um den Preis der Diana" (a leading horse racing event at which the German Oaks is run) and the Tennis World Team Cup. On the international stage, it sponsors the beach volleyball tournaments in Paris and Klagenfurt, Austria and the Rubson Raid Turquoise speedboat race.
"Henkel - A Brand like a Friend". Henkel is a leader with brands and technologies that make people's lives easier, better and more beautiful. Henkel, a Fortune Global 500 company, operates in three strategic business areas - Home Care, Personal Care, and Adhesives, Sealants and Surface Treatment. In fiscal 2005 Henkel generated sales of 11.974 billion euros. More than 50,000 employees work for Henkel worldwide. People in approximately 125 countries around the world trust in brands and technologies from Henkel.
