Top 5 Avoidable Failures in Water and Wastewater Plants

Our Water and Wastewater experts have partnered with hundreds of facilities and associations across the United States and Canada to validate dozens of Loctite® maintenance and repair solutions. Our industry proven solutions offer dramatic cost, reliability and safety improvements. A few examples are listed below:

Nut and Bolt Failures in Clarifiers

Loose nuts and bolts on the scraper assembly can cause the inefficient operation of a Clarifier. This causes premature system downtime and in some cases catastrophic failure. Standard mechanical locking devices, like star washers and split ring lock washers are expensive and do not prevent fasteners from loosening and/or rusting. Loctite® Threadlockers can prevent fastener failure and promote the easy disassembly of fasteners during scheduled system maintenance.

Sludge Pump Failure and Wetted Surface Degradation

Sludge pump leaks and internal wear are common occurrences in most Wastewater plants. Address these system inefficiencies and improve Sludge room safety with Loctite® machinery adhesives and rebuild materials. Loctite® Threadlockers can ensure proper torque tension on flange bolts. Loctite® Threadsealants can prevent leaky drain plugs and fittings. Loctite® Gasketing products can prevent flange leaks and promote longer lasting cut gaskets. Loctite® Retaining Compounds can prevent premature pump bearing failures and shaft damage. Loctite® Rebuild Epoxies can address wetted surface wear and improve overall pump efficiency.

Conveyor System Failures

Conveyors are critical for the final removal of waste from the Wastewater process. Apply Loctite® Threadlockers on idler pulley mounting bolts to ensure proper conveyor belt tension and operation. Repair tears and gouges on conveyor belts with Loctite® Belt Repair products.

Fresh Water Pump Leaks

Water leaks are a major concern in today’s Fresh Water pumping stations. With NSF 61 Approval for use in potable water systems, Loctite® Threadlockers, Threadsealants and Gasketing products can help you address the challenges, which are associated with the most rigorous conservation initiatives.

Concrete Damage around Manhole Covers and Influent Structures

Damaged concrete is a normal occurrence in sewage systems, influent structures and plant facilities. New concrete adheres poorly to old or damaged concrete. Loctite® Magna-Crete, which has 3 to 4 times the compressive strength of typical concrete systems, bonds extremely well to old or damaged concrete. With the appropriate seasonal additive, Loctite® Magna-Crete can be used year round in service temperatures ranging from -15°F to 110°F. Loctite® offers a wide variety of grouting, flooring and concrete repair products.
