Automotive Coatings
Whether it’s conversion coatings, phosphate coatings or underbody coatings, Henkel has developed a wide range of superior products for automotive manufacturing applications. The Henkel team of automotive experts has developed cutting-edge automotive coatings that meet or surpass the requirements of today's environmental, industrial and governmental regulations.
Customers rely on Henkel automotive coatings to protect against scratches and chips, and to seal, insulate and prevent corrosion. Henkel brands are known throughout the automotive industry for their quality, durability and acoustic properties. Henkel provides coatings for assembly or individual components.
Henkel Brand Name Automotive Coatings
Henkel’s Autophoretic® Brand offers environmentally friendly epoxy resin-based automotive coatings for use in automotive and general industrial metal coating applications. These coatings offer several production benefits and can simplify operations by removing time consuming steps. The company's Terophon® brand automotive coatings offer solutions for a variety of acoustical applications, and Henkel’s Teroson® brand products include automotive underbody coatings to provide resistance to abrasion and corrosion.
Waterborne Automotive Coatings
Combining outstanding performance with corporate responsibility, Henkel’s waterborne automotive coatings have low solvent and volatile organic compound (VOC) levels, which adhere to both environmental and government regulations. These waterborne automotive coatings provide excellent adhesion, and make terrific primers because of their resistance to heat and abrasion. Their advantages over solvent-borne automotive coatings including less toxicity, less flammability, a reduction of air emissions, and improved worker health and safety. Plus, our waterborne coatings do not require any additives, hardeners or thinners, which provides a significant cost advantage.
Phosphate Coatings
Phosphate coatings from Henkel are used extensively to improve corrosion resistance and reduce manufacturing costs. Hidden metal automotive parts can be zinc phosphated at a lower cost when compared to alternative finishes like plating or painting.

TRACK-Site Solutions Improve Coatings Process
TRACK-Site Solutions Improve Efficiency
Waste treatment during the process of automotive coating can be a time consuming and costly process. But with Henkel's ACC® coatings, the process requires little or no volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This eliminates many costly waste treatment steps. Our automotive conversion coatings improve efficiency by allowing more parts to be packed into fewer racks, at more easily accessible angles. By allowing parts to be assembled, coated and shipped all in one container, HIG designed conversion coating packages cut manufacturing cycle times and reduce transportation steps, labor costs and scrap and reworking expenses.
Anticipating the Future
For every type of automotive coating, Henkel's wealth of knowledge, expertise and resources ensures we stay ahead of industry trends. Henkel has developed non-PVC automotive coatings in anticipation of future end of vehicle life (ELV) directives. In anticipation of changes in environmental and government requirements, Henkel is already researching new automotive coatings to meet tomorrow's regulations.
