Primerless Window Glazing Solution for Vehicles
Overview
When securing windows to the metal frames of truck cabs, one of the following methods are employed:
- Mechanical gasketing with a rubber grommet
- Bonding or "glazing" with an elastomeric adhesive
Benefits
Teroson® Terostatâ„¢ moisture curing urethanes, with the assistance of primers, are typically used for window glazing and offer the following advantages over mechanical gasketing:
- Airtight seal, resulting in improved noise, vibration, and harshness enhancements
- Higher strength, leading to increased glass retention
- More automated assembly process, reducing labor costs
- FMVSS Certified for drive away time
Loctite's primerless window glazing solution saves you money by:
- Eliminating the cost of primers
- Eliminating VOCs associated with primers
- Removing the time spent on primer application
- Reducing complexity in the manufacturing
A viable alternative to utilizing a urethane for window glazing is the use of a Teroson Terostat modified silane (MS) based adhesive. In addition to providing all of the aforementioned advantages over mechanical gasketing, using MS adhesives provides additional benefits over urethanes for the assembler:
- No primer is required, improving output and product consistency
- Heated lines used for glazing grade urethanes are not required, saving capital cost for the manufacturer
